BALLOON FLOWER “SENTIMENTAL BLUE”

6 to 12 in. tall, 12 to 18 in. wide.
Dwarf variety. Clump-forming perennial so named because its flower buds puff up like balloons before
opening. The root of balloon flower is used extensively in Asia as an anti-inflammatory in the treatment of
coughs and colds.  It is used in latent remedies and sold as platycodi commemorating it.

NATIVE PLANT
This species is striking when massed in sunny
borders. It attracts bees, butterflies, moths, and
hummingbirds. Apparently, few herbivores eat its
foliage. The roots (along with those of all the other
plants) help to stabilize the soil, even during
seasons when this perennial plant is dormant.

medium- to large-sized shrubs can anchor a perennial bed or form
a hedge

NATIVE PLANT
Butterfly weed produces many bright orange, flat-topped
flower clusters in early June.  Flowering goes on for many
attract a variety of butterflies to your property, especially
monarchs.
Roots act specifically on the lungs as an expectorant and
anti-inflammatory. Valuable for all chest complaints,
including pleurisy.
BRUGMANSIA
Brugmansia is a small to mid-size tree with
large, strong-smelling, trumpet-shaped flowers
hanging downward. Most parts of the plant
contain atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine.
It has been used as an admixture plant in
ayahuasca brews as well as in poisons and
medicines in S. America.
